Ruzizi Tented Lodge in Akagera provides much needed additional luxury accommodation for visitors to Akagera National Park. Ruzizi tented lodge was in March 2013 the first of its kind in Rwanda, pioneer and trendy setter in luxury tented accommodation. Ruzizi Tented Lodge is built on the shores of Lake Ihema in Akagera National Park. Lake Ihema is Rwanda's second largest lake.

Ruzizi Tented Lodge is in Akagera Game Park owned and run by African Parks management who also used run Akagera Game Lodge before its management was taken over by the luxury Mantis Group. Where possible, materials used to construct Ruzizi Tented Lodge were sourced locally to further contribute to the local economy.

Luxury Tented Camp Overlooking Lake Ihema
Ruzizi is an empitome of a luxury eco-lodge. The lodge is situated on the shores of Lake Ihema. It is composed of 9 tents which all overlook the banks of Lake Ishema and neatly tucked away among the palms and fig trees that charaterise most of this beautiful area.
The lodge has a thatched reception and dining area plus wooden footpaths that lead to an amazing deck that is suspended over Lake Ihema. One of Ruzizi Lodge's central features is a fire place that serves as the ideal spot for a morning/evening cup of tea/coffee or evening drink after game drives in the park in search of the big five that call Akagera Game Park home.

Ruzizi Tented Lodge can comfortably host a maximum of 20 guests keeping it fairly boutique and intimate without the large numbers associated with large hotels. Each tent comes with a luxury en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a dressing area, and a cozy queen bed or 2 twin beds. All of Ruzizi Lodge's tents have shaded verandas with camping chairs and a beautifully crafted table out of wood.

Ruzizi lodge was designed and constructed to perfcetly and effortlessly mingle with its lush savannah surroundings to ensure guests stay immersed in nature during their stay at the lodge. During construction, trees and vegetation were left untouched as much as possible and many of the lodge's furnishings were hand-crafted by local artisans and cooperatives. The lodge uses solar power in line with it's eco and environmentally friendly credentials.

The lodge offers a quiet, boutique and intimate getaway retreat to travellers wishing to spend a few days from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Each tent at Ruzizi tented lodge has a small patio and deck chairs at the front and accessible by wooden bridgewalk platforms.

A thatched main lodge houses the reception area, a lounge bar and dining area. A large deck with a fireplace for sundowners is offered under a fig tree.
