Description
Kwitonda Lodge Kinigi Rwanda, Singita Kwitonda Lodge Volcanoes National Park Rwanda, Kwitonda Lodge Ruhengeri Rwanda.
Kwitonda Lodge derives its name from a famous silverback mountain gorilla in Volcanoes National Park. Kwitonda Lodge is situated right on the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park, home to the rare endangered mountain gorillas. Kwitonda Lodge sits on an expansive 178 acres and shares a 1.2km stretch with Volcanoes National Park, making it an ideal accommodation base for gorilla trekkers who visit Northern Rwanda to track the gorillas in their natural habitat of Volcanoes National Park. .
Kwitonda Lodge enjoys awesome views of the imposing volcanoes of Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura mountains and is surrounded by thich mountain rain forests. The furnishing and interiors of Kwitonda Lodge are inspired by local design and handcrafted details picked from local Rwandan architecture.
Kwitonda Lodge blends in seamlessly with the natural environment of Volcanoes National Park and is situated right on the edge of the home of more that one third of the world's rare mountain gorillas. Singita Kwitonda Lodge’s privileged position offers guests a once in a lifetime gorilla trekking experience within comfortable reach as the lodge is in close proximity of the park headquarters where guests assemble on the morning of their gorilla trek for pre-gorilla tracking briefings.
Kwitonda Lodge has a total of 8 eight suites of pure luxury and comfort. The suites feature a private heated plunge pool, wellness treatment area, in- and outdoor fireplaces and large timber-framed windows.
Kwitonda Lodge is designed with its imposing location in mind. The lodge design includes woven ceilings and hand-fired terracotta brickwork crafted by local artisans, while a dedicated Conservation Room and on-site nursery and vegetable garden – which provides fresh produce for Kwitonda’s farm-to-table food journey – provides the organic culinary experience that Kwitonda Lodge offers.
Given that Singita Kwitonda Lodge is set at the backdrop of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes, it is designed with local materials, the buildings have been crafted using volcanic rock, river stone, handmade ceramic tiles and oven-red clay bricks made by the local communities; connecting the structure to the landscape and its culture.
Mountain bamboo, ferns, giant lobelias and forest trees provide a natural backdrop that will eventually swallow the buildings and reclaim them back into the forest. Dramatic stone walls rise out of the volcanic boulders, and from these the architecture is suspended. A combination of green-roofed, stonewalled, organic cabin-like structures set alongside light verandas offers a dynamic mix of shape and texture.
A central hub with beautiful indoor and outdoor living spaces serves as the heart of Singita Kwitonda Lodge. This space forms an experiential enclave with lounges, dining areas, an outdoor fire pit, an interactive kitchen, bar deli and a wine cellar for guests to enjoy.
Private, self-contained bedroom suites and amenities lead off of the main lodge via a network of volcanic rock pathways.
