Kidepo Valley National Park in Uganda lies in the off-beaten track, semi arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya, a good 700km from Kampala,Uganda's capital city.
Kidepo National Park has a prolific profusion of big game and wildlife and hosts over 77 mammal species as well as around 475 bird species.
Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated national park, but the few travelers who make the long journey north of Uganda through the wild frontier region of Karamoja would agree that it is also the most magnificent and amazing.
Kidepo ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses. From Apoka, in the heart of the park, a savannah landscape and plains extend far beyond the gazetted area, towards the distant mountain ranges of Mt Morongole and further afield into Africa's youngest nation-South Sudan.

Day 1: Set off from Kampala or Entebbe
Leaving Kampala early, drive eight hours to Gulu or Kitgum and overnight here.
Day 2: Arrival at Kidepo National Park
after breakfast complete your drive from Kitgum or Gulu, and check into your accommodation at Apoka Lodge or UWA Apoka bandas.
Armed with packed lunches take a game drive along the Narus Valley.sTAY ALERT for buffalo, giraffes, zebras, elands, oribis and elephants – and even the odd jackal. Your guide may even be able to locate lions, sunbathing atop rocks.
Day 3: Game Drive to hot springs and nature walk/ Narus valley tour
Depart on a morning game drive to the hot springs via the palm tree lined Kidepo River. Search for ostriches and leopard tortoises along the way. After a packed lunch, stretch your legs during a guided walk through the park.
Day 4: Cultural Tour
Visit the Lorokul Cultural Group and explore the fascinating, ancient culture of the Karamojong. Visit traditional homesteads, sample local dishes and hear stories of the folklore of this remote tribe.
Day 5 Departure
Drive back to Kampala, or drive onwards to Mount Elgon National Park OR mURCHISON falls National Park to continue your Ugandan adventure.
