Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport Rwanda.
You will be met on arrival at Kigali airport Rwanda by our professional English Speaking driver guide. You will be briefed about your Rwanda and DRC exciting adventure ahead. Time permitting and depending on your arrival time you will conduct a 2hrs Kigali City Tour before being transferred to your Kigali hotel for jetlag recovery, brushing up, relaxation dinner and overnight on BB basis.
Day 2: Transfer to Butare, South Rwanda
If you missed the chance the previous day, after breakfast you will do the Kigali City tour before transferring to Butare the cultural hub of Rwanda with all its cultural attractions. You get a chance to visti the Mirambi Genocide Memorial and visit King's Palace in Nyanza. Time permitting you get a chance to witness a performance by the Intore dancers. O/N Ibis Hotel Butare.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest Rwanda
After breakfast, our professional english speaking tour guide will collect you from your overnight Butare hotel and drive further Southern Rwanda for onward travel to Nyungwe Forest. Afternoon canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest and Overnight stay at Nyungwe Forest Lodge(high-end) / Gisakura Guest House(budget)
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking Nyungwe forest
Very early in the morning assemble at Nyungwe Forest park headquarters for briefing before proceeding for a forest walk searching for the chimpanzees. You get an opportunity to view a number of birds on the way. Return to the Lodge for lunch and evening at leisure exploring the Nyungwe Forest area, enjoying great views from your vantage point. Day 5: Transfer to South Bukavu DR Congo
After breakfast we cross over to South Bukavu (subject to the security situation in DRC at the time) DR .We check into our South Bukavu Hotel in preparation for the next day’s lowland gorilla trekking expedition in Kahuzi Biega National Park. It takes less than 2 hours to cross over to Bukavu town. Clients are advised to secure their DRC entry visas. This day you may visit the museum at Bukavu. Time permitting we take a boat cruise along Lake Kivu to Idjwi Island. Overnight stay Horizon Hotel Bukavu
Day 6: Gorilla trekking
After a very early breakfast, report to Tshivanga Visitor Centre for pre-briefing of lowlands gorilla briefing trek. The lowlands gorilla trek is fairly unique and different from the Mountain Gorilla trekking experience in Virunga forest. Kahuzi Biege National Park is still not invaded by mass tourism, and as such clients should not be suprised if they are the only one trekking the lowlands gorillas on the day they visit. When you find the lowland gorillas you will be allowed at least an hour in the presence of the lowland gorillas. You later return to Horizon Hotel for relaxation and later transfer to Rwanda’s side of the Lake Kivu area for an overnight at Kivu Serena Hotel / Paladis Malahide/Dian Fossey Hotel.
Day 7: Boat cruise on Lake Kivu
Enjoy a boat cruise to the coffee Island. Witness the local brewing of banana beer and the banana gardens. You may also choose to go on a crop to cup coffee plantation visit on one of the coffee plantations in Gisenyi. Return to your hotel for lunch and in the afternoon transfer to Volcanoes National Park Overnight stay Mountain Gorilla View Lodge | Virunga Lodge/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 8: Mountain gorilla trekking
Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans, through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga range, is a magical experience and different from the Kahuzi Biega National Park Loeland gorillas trekking experience . Once you reach the gorillas, you can spend an hour with them and be back at base in time for a late lunch! Some gorilla families like the Susa group can be more elusive, and tracking can take a full day, especially if it is wet and muddy. Day 9: Golden monkey tracking or Visiting Dian Fossey Grave
There is much to explore here including tracking the endangered golden monkey or trekking to Dian Fossey’s grave and the gorilla cemetery, the final resting place of her favourite gorilla, Digit. Other popular excursions include visiting the local school or local cultural village. You may also choose to take a guided walk to Lake Bulera and experience local village life.. In the afternoon transfer back to Kigali. Overnight stay Kigali Serena Hotel/Inside Afrika/Golf Hills Residence.
Day 10: Kigali city tour and departure
Today we go shopping for handicrafts and the great Rwanda coffee for taking to loved ones back home. We later transfer to the airport for the outbound departure flight.
