This Rwanda tour starts with wildlife and birds in Akagera National Park in the east of Rwanda, with its beautiful wetland savannah.
The highlight of the safari is, of course, tracking the mountain gorillas in Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in the Virunga volcanoes in the northwest. This safari offers an opportunity to track gorillas once. PNV in Rwanda has five habituated gorilla families and tracking most groups in the afro-montane forest usually takes only a few hours.
Day 1 On arrival at Kigali airport in Rwanda, you will be met and transferred to Akagera National Park. Time permitting, go for an evening game drive in the park. O/N: Akagera Game Lodge (B,L,D).
Day 2 Full day game drives in the park. O/N: Akagera Game Lodge.(B,L.D).
Day 3 Transfer to PNV after breakfast driving through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterise much of Rwanda’s landscape with as many as five peaks visible. O/N: Gorillas Nest Hotel (B,L,D).
Day 4 Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans. This is a magical experience. You hike the lush, forested slopes of the Virungas. If you find a gorilla group (permit included in tour cost), you spend an hour observing them before returning to base. Some gorilla families, however, are more elusive and tracking can take a full day. Gorilla Nest Hotel
Day 5 Depart for Kigali; if time permits, take a tour of the city, including a visit to the market, a pottery project, a widow's project, handicraft shops, and a genocide memorial. Transfer to the airport for your onward international flight. (B,L)
