This is our "best of Rwanda" tour package suggested itinerary. We have endeavoured to make this Rwanda vacation itinerary as exciting as possible for travellers with 9 days to spend while touring Rwanda.

Included in the package vacation are obviously the gorillas, the golden monkeys, the chimps, cultural, beach vacation in Gisenyi, plus a tour of Kigali city and the genocide memorials at Gisozi.

safari highlights: leaving Kigali by road with a private driver-guide is a wonderful way to explore the country. Along the journey, he will share many of the country's major attractions and history with you, making this an intimate trip you will never forget. The highlight will, of course, be the gorillas but you will also enjoy meeting delightful people, viewing stunning landscapes and experiencing lovely national parks and lakes

DAY 1: Akagera National Park Arrival in Kigali and transfer to the Akagera National Park Set at a relatively low altitude on the border with Tanzania, Akagera National Park could scarcely be more different in mood to the breezy cultivated hills that characterise much of Rwanda. Dominated scenically by the labyrinth of swamps and lakes that follow the meandering course of the Akagera River, the most remote source of the Nile, this is archetypal African savannah landscape of tangled acacia woodland interspersed with open grassland. Akagera is, above all, big game country! Herds of elephant and buffalo emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes, while lucky visitors might stumble across a leopard, a spotted hyena or even a stray lion Accommodation: Akagera Game Lodge FB

DAY 2: Akagera National Park full day of game drives in the park accommodation: Akagera Game Lodge.FB

DAY 3: Nyungwe National Park. Drive to Butare and visit the museum After lunch continue to Nyungwe National Park Extending for 1,000 square kilometres across the majestic hills of southeast Rwanda, Nyungwe National Park is the largest block of montane forest in East or Central Africa, and one of the most ancient, dating back to before the last Ice Age A uniquely rich centre of floral diversity, the forest has more than 200 different types of tree, and a myriad of flowering plants including the other-worldly giant lobelia and a host of colourful orchids Accommodation: Gisakura Guest House.FB

DAY 4: Lake Kivu. Morning primate trek in search of chimpanzees, Angola colobus, L'Hoest's monkeys and much more After lunch continue to Lake Kivu Lake Kivu is the largest of numerous freshwater bodies that shimmer in the valleys of Rwanda. Lakes Burera and Ruhondo, close to the gorilla-tracking centre of Ruhengeri, are oft-neglected gems, deep blue waters ringed by steep hills and tall waterfalls, with the nearby Virunga Volcanoes providing a spectacular backdrop Accommodation: Kibuya Gest House.FB

DAY 5: Gisenyi Morning boat-ride on the lake and then continue to Gisenyi. Accommodation: Kivu Sun Hotel.BB

DAY 6: Virungas conservation area. Today you will drive to Ruhengeri. Rest of the day at leisure Accommodation: Gorillas Nest Lodge.FB

DAY 7: Virungas conservation area. Depart early to the Virungas for a morning gorilla trek. Lunch and a sight-seeing tour of colourful markets nearby Accommodation: Gorillas Nest Lodge.FB

DAY 8: kigali Morning gorilla trek Lunch, depart to Kigali and on to your city hotel Accommodation: Novotel.FB
