Description

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda
Upon your arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be picked up by the staff of Entebbe Airport Guesthouse.

Depending on your time of arrival, you can relax in the garden of the guesthouse or walk around Entebbe. You can go to the beach of Lake Victoria, visit the Botanical Gardens or go to one of the luxurious lodges for a nice meal and/or a dive in the swimming pool.
All activities today are at your own cost.
The guesthouse has 8 large and airy rooms in a nice garden setting. All the these rooms contain a fan, mosquito net and have private bathroom facilities. The main house hosts Mama Africa Restaurant, a social area and bar.

Day 2: To Kampala and Jinja
At 9 a.m. you will be picked up from the guesthouse by your driver/guide & support vehicle. He will bring you to Kampala where you will pick up the motor bikes. After testing the bikes, you will proceed to Jinja. You spend the night in a simple tent at Nile River Explorers (NRE) with beautiful views over The Nile. The tent has two single beds, a table, two chairs and electric light at night. There is a building with showers and toilets. There is a lively bar where they also sell simple but nice food. If you prefer a great meal in a restaurant, walk 50 meters to Black Lantern restaurant.
Journey time: 1½ hours to Kampala + 3 hours to Jinja

Day 3: To Sipi Falls
You will be heading for Sipi Falls today. The Sipi River flows over the foothills of Mount Elgon, forming a series of waterfalls – these culminate in a spectacular drop, which is surrounded by pretty walking trails and lush green hills. You will pitch your tent at the simple campsite of Crow’s Nest. The campground is beautifully located on the flanks of Mount Elgon and has built in terraces with stunning views of the main falls at Sipi. If you wish, you can hike to the main waterfall, this is an optional excursion.

Day 4: To Lira
Driving via Soroti towards Lira, you will have the chance to take the absolute best road you will come across in the whole of Uganda. The route crosses large areas of wetlands/swamps.
Lira has a fantastic vibrant African feel about the place. Music blares from humungous speaker systems, the market is a happening place and there is profusion of hair cut sign art to be seen.
You will stay at Lira Hotel, one of the best hotels in town but still you should not expect a high standard.

Day 5: To Murchison Falls National Park
The journey goes via Karuma to the northern gate of Murchison Falls National Park. Uganda's largest national park protects a chunk of untamed African savannah bisected by the mighty river Nile. It is named for the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the world's longest river explodes violently through a narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43m below.
You will game drive through a beautiful part of the national park to the river Nile. All wildlife can been seen in the park; Elephant, Lion, Waterbuck, Buffalo, Giraffe, Leopard, Uganda Kob, Warthog, Hartebeest, etc.
After the crossing with a small ferry you are at your campsite within 5 minutes. The campsite has 2 basic sanitary buildings with cold running water. Meals are not inclusive but there is a nice bar with a small restaurant with good meals (dinner is appr. USD 5).

It must be noted that Hippos can come out to graze at night and also other wild animals might wonder around.
Please note that these animals are wild and unpredictable and under no circumstances food should be stored in tents at night.
The campsite is safe for visitors, but guests are reminded that animals should never be approached too closely, and special care must be taken after dark. Campers camp at their own risk!

Day 6: Wildlife in Murchison Falls
This morning, you get up early for another game drive in the park. With the ferry you cross the Nile. A drive through the parks, and then you will be eye-to-eye with the African animal kingdom.
In the afternoon you make a boat trip towards the Murchison Falls; carefully watched by crocodiles, hundreds of hippos, buffaloes, water birds, apes and all the other thirsty wildlife that the Nile attracts, you go to the bottom of the 43 meters high and famous Murchison Falls, which approaches you with a thunderous sound.

Day 7: To Hoima
No need to wake up early this morning. After a relaxed breakfast, you break down your tent and pack your luggage. Then, you take a beautiful route through a valley, enjoy views on Lake Albert and small villages and stop for a relaxing night in a comfortable, middle class hotel with a nice big garden in the cozy town of Hoima. You stay here one night, dinner and breakfast are included.

Day 8: To Kibale Forest
You will begin your journey to Kibale Forest. The drive is incredibly scenic, passing through tea plantations and the lush green countryside which characterizes so much of Uganda.
You stop for a late lunch (not inclusive) in the cozy town Fort Portal.
Then the drive to the forest takes only 1 more hour, you will enter a completely different world… some serious monkey business! The forest is not only home to the chimpanzee but to at least 12 other primate species including: the Red Tailed Monkey, Olive Baboon, Black and White Colobus Monkey, and the Blue Monkey. The bird life in the forest is also prolific and includes the beautiful Great Blue Turaco.
Chimps' Nest provides a nice campsite. You can choose to camp uphill, with a splendid view, or downhill, inside the jungle. Campers have sufficient access to flushing toilets, wash basins and warm showers.
If you wish, you can go for an optional night walk in the forest, organized by Chimps’ Nest.

Day 9: Chimpanzee tracking or Bigodi swamp walk
This morning you can choose from 2 optional excursions:
1) Chimpanzee Tracking or 2) a walk in Bigodi Swamp area.
Chimp Tracking (costs USD 150 per person, including park entrance fees):

Chimpanzees can be located in 21 countries in Africa. They used to be located in 25 countries. There are almost 5000 chimpanzees left in Uganda. Chimpanzees and other primates can be seen in Uganda more easily than
anywhere else in the world. This makes Uganda to the primary destination to have a great Chimp-experience!!
The experienced ranger takes you chimp tracking, in the mean time showing you the many monkey species that live in this tropical forest. A wonderful jungle trip is the result, finishing in an hour of eye to eye contact with the chimps. We can however never guarantee you to see them, they are still wild animals! Bigodi Swamp walk (costs appr. USD 15 per person, no park entrance fees required):

This walk is quite easy and takes 2-3 hours. During the swamp walk you will see a great landscape and pass some local villages. Animals to be seen during the swamp walk are many different monkey species and especially a great bird life. It is common to spot 3-4 different monkey species during the walk. The swamp is also host to over 200 bird species.

In the afternoon, you continue to Queen Elizabeth N.P., the second largest national park in Uganda. It is located at the base of the massive Rwenzori Mountains, adjacent to Lake Edward and Lake George. While approaching the park, you might already come across gazelle, warthog and waterbuck. Lions and lionesses can show themselves in the distance. These forces of nature could confront you even before you enter the park, which is nothing compared to what awaits you in the park: hundreds of hippos, elephants trumpeting when you come too close and lions and lionesses looking skittish from left to right. You will see an abundance of gazelle and buck, lazy leopards playing in the sun, some crocodiles… This is truly the Africa of Discovery!

You stay at Bush Lodge in a nice eco cottage-tent. The cottage-tent has a bed-room with eco-toilet and a private outside bathroom with double “bush” shower with hot water (on request). Of course your outside bathroom is fenced and gives you all privacy. This small lodge is in the middle of wildlife and often visited by Hippo and Elephant, even Lion might come at the premises. The food is excellent and the atmosphere brilliant.
You go for a game drive into the park in the late afternoon.

Day 10: Morning boat safari + To Bwindi
You boat safari in the national park starts at 9 a.m. During this boat safari you will see more hippos then you could ever imagine. On the natural Kazinga Channel many animals come to drink or bathe. From close range you’ll see hippos, buffalos, many unique birds, crocodiles and if you’re lucky bathing elephants or drinking lions.
After the boat safari, you proceed to Bwindi: Home of the mountain gorillas.
You stay in Ruhija in a simple but spacious non self contained furnished tent on the edge of the forest. You have spectacular views overlooking the valley towards to forest.
Only recently gorilla trackings started from Ruhija, before that time there were hardly any tourists. Ruhija is now a fast growing village but still has the rural feeling.

Day 11: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Today, you can go for an optional excursion: Gorilla Tracking (USD 500 per person):
Prepare yourself for an encounter with one of Bwindi’s gentle giants: the rare Mountain Gorilla. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest boasts both Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees - the only forest in Africa which can make this claim in fact. It also hosts five other species of primate, 113 species of mammal, over 200 butterflies and 360 birds. The Gorillas you track belong to one of seven habituated family groups who can tolerate the presence of humans for a brief period every day. Your trek will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the Gorillas’ habitat. En-route, your guide will point out signs of previous Gorilla activity, including dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. The time taken to track the Gorillas can take as little as half an hour to as much as 7 hours!

Once the Gorillas have been located, your group will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. Coming face to-face with a Mountain Gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience. This is a fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist’. ‘As soon as we approached the Gorillas, I immediately spotted the Silverback. He was making deep, rumbling noises and it was almost as though he was communicating with our guide! Nearby, a female was chewing on a tasty bamboo shoot, whilst a baby gorilla approached us inquisitively. We were able to get incredibly close to the group, but we had been advised by our guide not to make any direct contact with them. The experience of not only observing these fascinating animals, but being observed by them (!) was truly breathtaking’.

For people who do not wish to go Gorilla tracking, there are other optional activities from Ruhija:
• A guided walk to the Mubwindi swamp area (inside the park, requiring payment of entrance fee and a ranger guide),
• Birding walks with trained bird guides,
• Community walks in the spectacular landscape surrounding Ruhija, including a waterfall and swamp area;
• Visiting local artisans like the blacksmith, local healer, basket weavers, honey collectors etc.

Day 12: To Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast you head for Lake Bunyonyi or ‘Place of Little Birds’. The lake lies close to the border with Rwanda, and is thought of as one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa and also one of the few places in the country where it is considered safe to swim (as it is bilharzias free).
The lodge is located on the main land at the edge of the lake and wonderful for relaxing, swimming and simplyimmersing yourself in the natural beauty of your surroundings. The nearby hills and papyrus swamps offer many opportunities for bird watching and the shady Eucalyptus trees provide peaceful places to sit and read a book.

Day 13: To Masaka
After breakfast you drive to Masaka. The Tropic Inn Hotel is located in the heart of Masaka Town, one of Uganda oldest towns. The hotel has a large swimming pool.

Day 14: Back to Kampala
Heading towards Kampala, you will pass the equator once more. This is a nice place to make some pictures and the perfect place to buy some nice souvenirs.
Speke Hotel is named after the famous British explorer, John Hannington Speke, who was the first white person to see the source of River Nile. Speke Hotel is the first and oldest hotel in Uganda, built in the British Colonial times of the 1920s. It has, of course, gone through renovations, but has maintained its colonial ambience. The hotel has 50 ensuite rooms which all have the modern luxury facilities that one would expect. There are also several themed restaurants (including Italian and Indian) and one of the best cocktail bars in Uganda.
The hotel is situated in the heart of Kampala, close to the banks, shopping centers and ‘Rock Garden’ bar.

Day 15: Bye bye Uganda
Depending on the time your flight departs, you might still have time to explore Kampala and/or Entebbe.
You will drop the motorbikes at the office in the course of the day and then your driver will take you to Entebbe
Airport in time to catch your flight.
This is the end of your tour.
