DAY 1: MEET AND GREET
Arrival @Entebbe Airport we are met by our Ugandan driver / guides and transferred to the Lake Victoria Hotel for the remainder of the night .

DAY 2: ENTEBBE / MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
In the morning we drive to our accommodations, for the next three nights, at Nile Safari Camp on the banks of the Victoria Nile. Each tented accommodation of this luxurious camp overlooks the river and has en suite shower and toilet and an elevated deck on which to relax. The bar and restaurant also overlook the river and provide beautiful views of the setting sun. B/L/D

DAY 3: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Following breakfast we take the ferry to Paraa on the north bank of the Victoria Nile, and travel by launch to the base of Murchison Falls, viewing wildlife and birds en route. Nile crocodiles are abundant, as are hippos and aquatic birds. After leaving the water we drive to the top of the falls where the Nile flows through a 20-foot wide gap in the rocks and drops 145 feet over the escarpment, creating what appears to be a boiling caldron far below. DAY 4: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
In the morning we depart on a game drive in the northern sector of the park. It was here that part of the movie African Queen was filmed. Some of the animals we may see include elephant, oribi, giraffe, waterbuck, hartebeest, buffalo, sitatunga, bushbuck, warthog, bush pig, lion, leopard, mongoose, hyena, jackal and bat-eared fox. DAY 5: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK / KIBALE FOREST

In the morning we drive through a beautiful agricultural countryside en route to the Kibale Forest and our accommodations for the next two nights at Ndali Lodge. The breathtaking views and cooler temperatures at Ndali are two of its best features. The rooms are decorated in local crafts and materials and feature high ceilings and four-poster beds with mosquito netting.

The en suite baths have hot and cold running water and flush toilets. There is no electricity at this lodge, but plenty of candles and oil lamps are provided in the evening, creating a romantic feel of "old Africa". B/L/D

DAY 6: KIBALE FOREST

Several of the the Kibale Forest’s 11 primate species have been subject to field study and become accustomed to human observation. Well-marked trails make the forest easily accessible. Following an early breakfast we walk into the rainforest in search of primates and other animals. Commonly seen species include olive baboon, red-tailed monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, and both red colobus and black-and-white colobus monkeys. We remain alert, listening for the distinctive pant-grunts that signal the presence of chimpanzees. Chimps are abundant here and there is a high likelihood of our seeing them.

Black-and-white-casqued hornbill, great blue turaco, grey parrot and Narina trogon are just a few of the many colorful Central African birds we may find here. After a picnic lunch we explore a forested swamp looking for birds, primates and some of the colorful butterflies which are abundant here. B/L/D

DAY 7: KIBALE FOREST / QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

In the morning we drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This 767-square-mile wildlife conservation area is one of Uganda’s outstanding treasures and has recently been designated as a Biosphere Reserve for Humanity under UNESCO. The park encompasses a remarkable variety of habitats including semi-deciduous tropical forests, acacia bush-land, open savannah, lakes, rivers and swamps. In addition to its famous tree-climbing lions, Uganda kob, elephant, buffalo, hippo, baboons and chimpanzees, more than 500 species of birds have been listed, making the park a prime location for birdwatchers.

Species recorded include the shoebill, black bee-eater, 11 types of kingfishers and a variety of raptors including several falcons and eagles. Our luxurious accommodations at Mweya Lodge command a wonderful view of Lake Edward. Nile hippo, warthogs and banded mongooses frequent the lawns around our rooms. B/L/D

DAYS 8 & 9 –QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

We have two full days to explore this magnificent wildlife sanctuary with game drives and a launch trip on the Kazinga Channel. This freshwater system, joining Lakes Edward and George, boasts the highest concentration of Nile hippos in the world. The boat ride also affords unique opportunities to view other mammals and birds as they come to the water’s edge to drink or bathe. Birding is excellent with species ranging in size from the brilliant Malachite Kingfisher to the giant Goliath Heron.

Twenty years ago Queen Elizabeth National Park had the highest density of wildlife of any park in Africa. Although these populations were severely depleted during Idi Amin’s regime, today they are well on their way toward recovery.

Uganda Kob are here in the thousands, and we also expect to see numerous Defassa waterbuck, bushbuck, African buffalo, warthog and elephant. Giant forest hogs are fairly common near forested areas , and lion and leopard are not rare. The scenic beauty of the park is a perfect backdrop for the wildlife drama that takes place around us. Our meals and overnight accommodations are at Mweya Lodge. B/L/D

DAY 10: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

In the morning we drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park to the Maramagambo Forest and our accommodations at Jacana Lodge on the shores of beautiful Lake Nyamasingiri. The lodge's luxurious amenities include a pool and sauna. In the afternoon we depart with our guide and walk a forest trail to a nearby bat cave. Our meals and overnight accommodations are at Jacana Lodge. B/L/D

DAY 11: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK / BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast we depart on an extended game drive through the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing Lions. In the afternoon we arrive at a permanent tented camp or lodge located on the edge of the Bwindi Forest. B/L/D

DAYS 12 & 13: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
The opportunity to see wild, free ranging gorillas is, perhaps, the highpoint of our exciting safari. During the next two days we visit different groups of habituated gorillas. Well-trained guides lead us to the site where gorillas were encountered the previous day and from this point we track them to their current location.

The trek can take between one and six hours, at altitudes in excess in 7,500 feet, and over rough terrain. Although the hike may be physically demanding, the anticipation of the exciting experience ahead is invigorating and the beauty of the forest and its inhabitants fascinating.

When gorillas are encountered, our fatigue is quickly forgotten. Observing a wild gorilla family in its natural habitat and on its terms is considered by many naturalists to be the most profound natural history experience in the world. Few who have had this rare privilege would disagree.

Each strictly regulated 60-minute visit passes all too quickly and we must depart, leaving the gorillas to their fragile existence. After a visit with the gorillas and a picnic lunch in the forest, we return to camp with unforgettable memories of a rare and wondrous experience. B/L/D

DAY 14: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST NATIONAL PARK / MBARARA

After two memorable days in the Bwindi Forest, we drive through a hilly region of neatly cultivated fields, often described as the “Little Switzerland” of Africa. Following a lunch stop in the town of Kabale, we drive through the Ankole District where the people keep massively horned cattle. Brought up the Nile Valley from Egypt to Ankole some 2,000 years ago, these animals have been bred here for centuries and are used as an indicator of personal wealth.

The horns of these domestic beasts may measure well in excess of four feet each. Our dinner and overnight accommodations are at the Agip Hotel in the town of Mbarara. B/L/D

DAY 15: MBARARA / ENTEBBE

In the morning we drive into the Lake Victoria basin, through huge papyrus swamps, fragmented rainforest, and past coffee and sugar plantations. Following a stop in the town of Mpigi, to visit local drum-makers and see how drums have been made in Uganda for centuries, we arrive in Entebbe and check into day rooms at the Lake Victoria Hotel. In the evening we transfer to the Entebbe airport and check in for our international flight (cost not included). B/L
