The main building at Kyaninga Lodge also houses the restaurant, where sumptous meals are served and had while one enjoys splendid views on both sides of the restaurant. 2 raised galleries offer intimate spaces for those wishing to absorb the panoramic views in a more private setting.
On the lake side of Kyaninga Lodge, the main lodge leads to two decks furnished with comfortable loungers, while steps hewn from local volcanic rock lead down to the swimming pool and onto two lawned terraces overlooking the deep blue water and primeval forest of Lake Kyaninga itself.
The 8 Cottages that make up Kyaninga Lodge are built on raised woooden platforms and set apart to offer privacy and tranquility.
Each spacious cottage is beautifully appointed with a choice of twin or double beds furnished with Egyptian cotton bedlinen and soft feather pillows.
Two family cottages feature a mezzanine level with extra sleeping space for children.The en suite bathrooms boast marble countertop basins set atop beautifully crafted Elgon Olive pedestals, claw footed freestanding baths and glass walled showers. Hot water and lighting in the cottages are solar powered.
For those intrepid explorers wishing for a little more adventure, Lake Kyaninga provides a fascinating backdrop for guided nature walks.
The route around the top of the crater takes between two and three hours to complete and offers spectacular views of the lodge. The lakeshore route is slightly longer but takes guests through unspoilt virgin forest teeming with wildlife and exotic plant species. Here you will see bat caves, troupes of black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys,vervet, and bird species too numerous to mention.
Kyaninga Lodge is less than an hour away from Kibale National Park, one of Africa’s premier destinations for chimpanzee tracking safari tours. The 795 square kilometres of Kibale National park are habitat to some of Africa's most dense and varied rainforest, and are home to 13 species of primates.
The star attraction are the 1500 chimpanzees, but the guided walks will offer the opportunity to see rare red colobus and L’Hoest monkeys, as well as olive baboon, grey cheeked mangabey, blue monkeys and bush babies. The forest is also home to over 300 species of birds, with six species endemic to the park, and other mammals including leopard, rare forest elephants, buffalo, giant forest hog and half a dozen species of antelope.
