Tours to Kidepo Uganda
Description
Kidepo Valley Park is perhaps Uganda's best national park because of the game viewing opportunities that it presents. The travel time is quite high from Kampala but well worth it for those who make the trip to Kidepo. This 6 days Kidepo tour vacation goes through Gulu where we spend the night prior to arrival to Kidepo the next day. We spend 3 nights exploring Kidepo on game drives, visiting the Karimajong, enjoying walking safaris, birding and having night game drives spotting a number of cats, wildlife and game.
On our way back to Kampala, the Kidepo tour package has a scheduled stop at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary near Nakasongola where we get to track the rhinos. Join this Kidepo safari holiday package to discover one of Uganda's best travel destinations-Kidepo.
Tour package Day 1: Arrival Kampala/Entebbe Airport
Leaving Kampala early, navigate Kampala traffic and drive eight hours to Gulu or Kitgum and overnight here.
Tour package Day 2: Arrival and Game Drive
Take a charter flight (one hour) from Kampala to Kidepo, or complete your drive from Kitgum or Gulu, and check into your accommodation.
After lunch (bring food for self-catering unless staying at Apoka Lodge), take a game drive along the Narus Valley. Keep your eyes peeled for buffalo, giraffes, zebras, elands, oribis and elephants – and even the odd jackal. Your guide may even be able to locate lions, sunbathing atop rocks.
Tour package Day 3: Game Drive to hot springs and nature walk/ Narus valley tour
Depart on a morning game drive to the hot springs via the palm tree lined Kidepo River. Search for ostriches and leopard tortoises along the way. After a packed lunch, stretch your legs during a guided walk through the park.

Wildlife
The park contains one of the most exciting faunas of any Ugandan national park. Along with the neighboring Karamoja region, it houses many species found nowhere else in Uganda, including the greater and lesser kudu, eland and cheetah. Carnivores here include the lion, leopard, spotted hyena and black-backed and side-striped jackals. Other large species regularly seen here are elephant, Burchell’s zebra, bushpig, warthog, Rothschild’s giraffe, Cape buffalo, bushbuck, bushduiker, Defassa waterbuck, Bohor reedbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest and oribi.
Birds
The park boasts an extensive bird list of around 475 species, making it second only in Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park. A few species of note are the Ostrich, Kori Bustard and Karamoja Apalis.
Kidepo is notable for its birds of prey. Of the 56 species recorded, 14 – including Verreaux’s Eagle, Egyptian Vulture and Pygmy Falcon – are believed to be endemic to the Kidepo and Karamoja region. There has, however, been no comprehensive survey of birds in Kidepo and visitors stand a good chance of adding to the current list.
