FEATURED PARKS AND RESERVES IN KENYA 

MASAAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
The Maasai Mara National reserve is Kenya’s most popular game Park. The Park is relatively small (a little smaller than Rhode Island) yet plays host to an amazing concentration of wildlife. You are almost guaranteed to see all the big five. Lions abound throughout the park as
do leopards, cheetah and hyenas. Between July and October, when the great wildebeest migration is on in the Maasai Mara , the sensation is unparalleled. Around the end of June, drawn by the long rains of April and May, it is estimated that more than half a million wildebeests enter
the Maasai Mara National reserve. These are in addition joined by another 100,000 from the Loita hills east of the Mara. Location: South of Kenya, 320 kms south west of Nairobi and within the
Rift Valley province.

LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Lake Nakuru was upgraded to a national Park status in the year 1968. The foundation of the Parks food chain supports huge numbers of lesser flamingo. Lake Nakuru’s Key attractions are the lesser and greater flamingos and other water birds including a variety of terrestrial birds numbering about 400 species in total. A variety of mammals are also found in this park numbering around 56 species including the rare white and black rhinos.

Location: Central Kenya, 150 kms north of Nairobi, in Nyeri District of central province.

ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK

The Aberdare is an isolated volcanic range that forms the eastern wall of the rift valley. Soils are red and of volcanic origin, but rich in organic matter. The topography is diverse with deep ravines that cut through the forested eastern and western slopes and there are many clear streamsand waterfalls. The Aberdae is host to kenya’s Famed Tree lodges. The Ark and Treetops Lodge are raised high on stilts and are an amazing place from where to observe wildlife especially at night.

Location: Central Kenya, 150 kms north-west of Nairobi, in Nyeri District of the Central Province.

SAMBURU GAME RESERVE

The reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya’s vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Maasai. The landscape is rugged and dramatic, against a backdrop of volcanic mountains. Samburu is also known for the gaunt hills and withered scrub trees which punctuate the sparse and dry terrain with clusters of the incredibly hardy desert rose providing the occasional flash of vivid color. Samburu is home to unique species, among them; the unique Gravy Zebras, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe among others

Location: North of Kenya, 350 km north-west of Nairobi, in Samburu District of the Eastern Province.

AMBOSELI NATIONAL RESERVE

The reserve is located at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain. Mount Kilimanjaro (5895-meters), is one of the most popular of Kenya’s national parks. Amboseli National Reserve lies some 240 kilometers south-east of Nairobi and very close to the Tanzania border. The snow- capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro rising above a saucer of clouds dominates every aspect of the Amboseli.

The snows of Mount Kilimanjaro, white and crystalline, form a majestic backdrop to one of Kenya’s most spectacular displays of wildlife that is the Amboseli. A visit to the Amoboseli guarantee views of the lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo and a host of other plains’
game. This is Kenya’s most sought after photographer’s paradise. There are an estimated 650 elephants, the largest number in all Kenyan parks and reserves per square kilometer
